The most common obstacles in attached-unit dwellings are HOA prohibition of exterior mechanical equipment, insufficient setback distance from adjacent unit walls and shared property lines, and natural gas service that enters the building at a central meter with no individual unit tap available. End units with exterior yard access have the highest success rate for generator installation. Interior units with only a shared balcony or no exterior ground space are rarely feasible.
