The First Alert GCO1CN Combination Explosive Gas and Carbon Monoxide Alarm provides three-way protection against carbon monoxide, propane, and natural gas or methane. It is designed for residential spaces where fuel-burning appliances, furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces, generators, gas stoves, propane equipment, or attached garages may create a potential gas or carbon monoxide hazard.
The alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor to detect dangerous CO levels while also monitoring for elevated concentrations of propane and methane gas. When a threat is detected, the unit sounds a loud 85-decibel alarm to alert occupants.
A clear backlit digital display shows current and peak gas readings, allowing homeowners to review detected levels and identify possible patterns from appliances or other fuel-burning sources. The detector plugs into a standard AC electrical outlet and requires no hardwiring. An included line cord provides additional placement flexibility when the alarm needs to be positioned higher or lower for the type of gas being monitored.
The replaceable 9V battery backup keeps the detector functioning if household power is interrupted. A convenient test/silence button makes it easy to verify proper operation and silence certain alerts when appropriate. The unit also includes an end-of-life warning to indicate when replacement is required.
