When utility power is interrupted, the standby generator system automatically starts and transfers the selected electrical circuits from utility power to generator power. Once utility service is restored and stable, the switch transfers the circuits back to utility power and allows the generator to complete its normal cooldown cycle. This automatic operation provides dependable backup power without requiring the homeowner to manually operate the system.

Important: The Generac 9947 is a non-service-entrance-rated automatic transfer switch. It does not provide the main service disconnecting means and must be installed downstream from a properly rated service disconnect or main breaker. If the transfer switch will be installed as the first disconnect after the utility meter, a service-entrance-rated transfer switch may be required instead.
